Be sure to follow us as we hear back by satellite phone from our shorebird scientists in the field.

Throughout the field season, we will be posting updates to the blog from our field expeditions across the hemisphere.

Because many of our research sites are so remote, the only communications we receive from the field come by satellite phone. When the field season is over in early July we will post more videos and pictures that could not be sent back electronically.

Recent shorebird trend analyses indicate that many North American shorebird species are declining, but we do not know why. Many of these species breed in the Arctic and winter in Central and South America so their conservation needs span the entire Western Hemisphere.
